2022 Block Fee Program

It is my goal to provide you with the best medical care in an approachable, friendly and efficient manner. As you may know, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) pays for most of your medical visits to the office. However, there are many time-intensive, uninsured services for which OHIP does not compensate physicians. Examples include: email, text-messaging, 2-way-secure-messaging via Corigan, prescription renewals over the phone/fax, sick notes, and orthotic prescription review.

For the past two years we have trialed connecting with patients by Text Message, by Email, and by Corigan (Secure-messaging). This has been at no cost to our patients and I believe that it has been a great success in providing a convenient option for us to communicate. Unfortunately, OHIP neither funds financial investment in these channels nor funds staff wages. These channels require both financial investment and staff time to process the hundreds of requests per day. As such, as of April 1, 2022, we have to start charging for these services. A single-use fee of $5.00 will apply to requests made by E-mail, Text message, and Corigan secure-messaging. Alternatively, we strongly suggest that you subscribe to our Block Fee Program that covers these services for as little as $8 per month.
  
While you may choose to pay for individual uninsured services on a “Pay-Per-Service” basis, I suggest you consider our Block Fee Program.  This program is optional and choosing not to participate will not impact your access to medical care. That said, I believe that he program offers great value for many of our patients.

I have changed the program for 2022 with on-line sign-up with a monthly subscription service to spread out the cost across the year. You may cancel at any time so you are not locked-in for a year.

Once you sign-up, you’ll have unlimited access to:

  • Prescription renewal requests via Phone, Text-message, E-mail, Corigan secure messaging and Fax with medication review
    (otherwise $30 per request)

  • Contact our office via Text-message, E-mail, or Corigan secure messaging for appointment requests and administrative questions
    (otherwise $5 per request)

  • Contact our office via Corigan secure messaging for medical questions and advice
    (otherwise $30 per request)

  • Access to Small Group Learning sessions with Dr. Peterson provided via on-line platforms such as Zoom
    (otherwise $10 per session)

  • Sick or Return to Work notes
    (otherwise $25)

  • Sick or Return to School notes
    (otherwise $25)

  • School, Daycare, Camp Medical Forms
    (otherwise $30)

  • Travel consultation
    (vaccination cost in addition, otherwise $50)

  • Uninsured Vaccination administration
    (vaccination cost in addition, otherwise $20)

  • Review of requests for Allied Health services
    (Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Massage Therapy, Orthotics, Assistive devices, etc; otherwise $20)

  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test and reading, including 2-step
    (otherwise $35)

  • Provision of printed or electronic medical notes or test results
    (otherwise $3 per result)

  • 50% reduction in Driver’s Medical Examination and report

  • 50% reduction in Legal and Insurance Form completion


The Block Fee Program is optional and has been established to help you find a more economical way to access non OHIP funded services.
